List of selforganisations, activist counselling and refugee councils in Germany

Last update : March 2020

More or less in all bigger cities in Germany various groups and organisations are active in solidarity with refugees and migrants. They offer also political, social and legal support. In the following list you will first find some most recommended self-organisations of refugees and migrants and several antiracist groups. Following some links to more specific initiatives concerning legal and medical aid as well as for labour and minors problems, you can find a list of the (more institutionalized) refugee councils, which are located all over Germany and might help to find useful contacts in every city.

Selforganisations and networks of refugees and migrants:

We’ll Come United!
An open initiative of people from different social, antiracist and political networks. Many of us are self-organised refugees from various cities in Germany. We organise since 2017 every year a parade on the street, a coming together to celebrate our daily struggles against deportations and daily racism and for equal rights for everyone. Migrantifa we call it when we organise against racist attacks.

Youth without Borders (Jugendliche ohne Grenzen)
Youth without Borders (JOG) is a germanwide association of young refugees founded in 2005. Our work follows the principle that those affected have their own voice and do not need a “representative policy for those affected”. We decide for ourselves which forms of action we choose and also how we carry them out.

The VOICE Refugee Forum – A Network of Refugee Initiatives in Germany:
Our goal is to support the self-organisation of refugees and their Communities against the Apartheid in isolation camps and ‘Lager’ and to empower the political Networks and struggles in the camps. We demand solidarity and protest against the collective punishments through racist persecution of refugees in Germany. We stand for Freedom of movement for all, Stop deportation and all discriminatory laws against refugees. We are united against any form of colonial injustice and social exclusion of refugees and people without rights in Germany.

Afrique Europe Interact
is a small, transnationally organised network that was founded in early 2010. It consists of grassroots activists mainly from Mali, Togo, Germany, Austria and the Netherlands – many of them self-organised refugees, migrants and people who were deported. Politically speaking, Afrique-Europe-Interact has two main goals: one is to publicly criticise and shame the EU migration policies; the other is to draw attention to the structural reasons for flight and migration and therefore the demand for fair and self-determined development. The right to global movement and settlement is only one side of the coin. What is equally important is the right to stay – that is, the possibility to live a secure, dignified and self-determined life in one’s home country/country of origin.
