Most of the refugees and migrants are only passing through the Czech Republic. They are often detained for 1 to 12 months. After being detained, they have 7 days to apply for asylum. They get another 7 days after release, which is either departure or state-organized deportation. Departure orders to leave the country are somewhere between 7 - 30 days. Syrian and Afghan migrants and refugees are not detained and they immediately get departure orders unless they ask for asylum. The asylum process is complicated and takes a lot of time. It’s usually only successful for minors and people from countries considered dangerous by Czech Republic like Afghanistan and Syria. Ukrainians have a special status and are not ordered to leave or detained, they can apply for very limited state social assistance.
