Work

Last update : February 2020

Asylum seekers are not allowed to work during the asylum procedure before getting a status but a new law in 2020 changed this, so that if the asylum procedure continues longer than 6 months they could file an application to the department of labour and asylum seekers would be allowed to be employed.

They have full access to labour market only when they are granted permanent residence.

It is difficult to find a job for recognised asylum seekers because of the existing prejudices and stereotypes held by employers. Mostly you need to have good Lithuanian skills, and it is easier for English or Russian speaker. However even if you are an excellent fit for your desirable job you still have some difficulties.
